Hi there! My name is Mallory and I am an ESL teacher. I first became interested in teaching when I was in college and I gave private Spanish lessons. I ended up majoring in Spanish language and studied abroad in Spain. I realized I loved travelling, and when I graduated I moved to Ecuador to teach ESL for the first time. Since then, I have obtained a TEFL certificate and have been teaching ESL in Colombia and in my home state of North Carolina.
With my students I have developed a teaching style that involves humor and spontaneity which keeps lessons engaging and exciting. I think the best way to keep students interested in learning another language is to get students to talk about things that really matter to them and to provide an inclusive and non-judgmental environment. To me, the most effective way to learn another language is to practice speaking with a native. That way you can eliminate any shyness and learn how to speak as naturally as possible. My favorite things to work on with students are accent reduction and pronunciation, idioms and common expressions, as well as situational and casual English conversation. However, I also have lots of experience with grammar and writing.
Having studied and learned Spanish, I can relate to what English students are going through. Learning another language can seem tough, but with practice and perseverance it can certainly be done!
